I’ve looked back through this blog as I’ve been told that various people have looked at it as a reference work for the origins of western tableware(???name in lights???). It made me realize that I should continue to write but the muse has somewhat dried up. Due to life circumstances, I suppose.
When I finished my MA in Experimental Archaeology 2014, I went back to work as a nurse while continuing to make contemporary studio ceramics and to find my voice that medium. I’ve developed fairly extensive arthritis and can no longer work in it, and dare I say it , even no longer want that level of responsibility after 30-40 years. Somehow, making ceramics is much easier for me physically than nursing. Of course, through all this, my passion for archaeology and ceramics lives in in my soul, my studio and on my bookshelf unabated. Maybe it needs to be revived her as well.
However, I have continued to make and teach ceramics in my little studio space at Flameworks. I also continue research(in my opinion , I’m a brilliant researcher) in various aspects of ceramic research- at the moment I’m attempting to locate materials, particularly locating where clay can be found locally, as I want to make a series of fairly conceptual pieces out of my local clays.
I continue to make porcelain cups, mugs bowls. I’ve recently focused on design development of a series of large bowls for an exhibition at the Byre Gallery , Millbrook , Cornwall. I don’t have any photos of these yet as I’m waiting for the show to photograph them properly. I’m teaching my prehistoric pot making course this year, I have the requisite one student. But, included in this will be a firing weekend where we will be firing pots round a domestic hearth, maybe in a bonfire, and we will be building and firing a kiln.
I’m getting ready for a few ceramic craft fairs, late June at Devon Pop ups, Barnstable and the Ceramic Market in July at Exeter. I’m making work for these events now.
Life st Flameworks changes constantly with the ebb and flow of old and new members. I currentlyh have 3 Ceramisisters, Helen Harrison, Leigh Mason and Christina Peters. We are very cohesive and
